A tragic incident unfolded on Christmas Day as a two-year-old girl, Isobel Abigail Maxwell, passed away after falling into a pond in the garden of her family home in Doncaster. Despite immediate CPR efforts by her family before the ambulance arrived, Isobel was taken to the hospital where her death was confirmed around 5.55pm on the same day.
An inquest into the heartbreaking incident was opened and adjourned by senior coroner Nicola Mundy at Doncaster Coroner’s Court. According to Coroner’s officer Scarlett Harrison, the incident was reported to South Yorkshire Police by the ambulance service at approximately 4.45pm on December 25.
Isobel’s father identified her at the hospital, and the family made arrangements with a funeral director for her cremation. The case has been adjourned until September 14 for a full inquest.
Following Isobel’s passing, her mother, Tamara Wallace, expressed gratitude to the many individuals who contributed to an online fundraiser to create a memorial fairy garden in Isobel’s honor. Ms. Wallace shared on Facebook that Isobel was a gifted child who lived a full life in her short two years, and the outpouring of support from the community has been overwhelming.
Isobel’s aunt, Abigail Maxwell, described the incident as a tragic accident that occurred during a family gathering on Christmas Day. Isobel had been playing with her cousin in the house when she wandered off briefly and fell into the pond, which was temporarily fenced due to ongoing renovations at their new home.
Ms. Maxwell emphasized that the pond was not intentionally left accessible but was a result of the family’s relocation and renovation efforts. She expressed the immense pain and sorrow of losing a child in such a tragic manner, highlighting the love and happiness Isobel brought into their lives.
The family is devastated by the loss of their beloved Isobel, remembering her for the joy and light she brought into their lives rather than the tragic circumstances of her passing.
