Tragic Death in Colombia Clinic: Biopolymer Injection Procedure Goes Wrong

Date:

A tragic incident occurred at a clinic in a shopping center where a nursing assistant, Paula Andrea Beltrán Sandoval, passed away while undergoing a procedure to remove toxic fillers from her buttocks. Sandoval, aged 41, experienced a cardiorespiratory arrest approximately 70 minutes into the treatment despite efforts to resuscitate her. She had traveled from New York to her hometown in Colombia for the procedure due to health issues related to previous biopolymer injections.

Biopolymer injections for cosmetic purposes are illegal in Colombia and not approved in the UK due to their serious risks, such as necrosis, migration, and sepsis. Sandoval, reportedly without any pre-existing medical conditions, underwent the surgery at a clinic in Medellín’s El Tesoro shopping center at a cost of 38,000,000 Colombian Pesos (about £8,335). An investigation is underway, examining the clinic’s records, licenses, and staff qualifications following the unfortunate incident.

Authorities are conducting a post-mortem examination at the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences to determine the exact cause of Sandoval’s death. The case remains actively under investigation until the results of the post-mortem examination are completed.
