Tragic Suicide in Cornwall Due to Family Rejection

Date:

A son tragically took his own life by jumping off a cliff in Cornwall after facing rejection from his family due to his sexual orientation, an inquest revealed.

Known as a compassionate and respected individual, Fabio Pedranzini was reported missing by Devon and Cornwall Police after disappearing from a holiday caravan he shared with his partner, Mark Riley, last year.

Fabio, a senior employee at Fujitsu overseeing 300 people, went missing from a caravan in Upton Towans near Gwithian, Hayle, as reported by Cornwall Live.

The inquest in Truro heard that the 55-year-old Italian national was found dead at the bottom of a cove in Cornwall, where his belongings were discovered two days after he went missing on March 21, 2025.

His body was located by emergency responders using a police drone during a search operation near where his Apple Watch had last indicated his location.

Mark Riley, Fabio’s partner, shared with the court how their relationship evolved from friendship to romance over 18 months, with plans to move in together.

Riley described Fabio as a kind-hearted individual who cherished his family and admired his father’s hard work throughout his life. However, Fabio only came out as gay to his family eight years before his death, causing tension in their relationship.

His family’s lack of acceptance of his sexuality led to strained relations, with Fabio feeling pressured to conform to their expectations. This rejection took a toll on his mental health, leading to paranoia and delusional episodes.

Despite his efforts to reconcile with his family in Italy, Fabio faced further distress when his father rejected his sexuality and encouraged him to pursue a relationship with a woman instead. This rejection exacerbated Fabio’s emotional turmoil.

Struggling with mounting stress and emotional turmoil, Fabio’s mental state deteriorated, ultimately leading to his tragic decision to end his life by jumping off the cliff.

The inquest concluded that Fabio’s death was a result of suicide, attributed to the significant emotional strain he experienced in the months leading up to his death.

Authorities found no signs of foul play in Fabio’s death, affirming that his mental health struggles and isolation played a significant role in his decision to take his life.

The senior coroner highlighted the immense stress Fabio was under, noting that he likely made the decision to end his life shortly after a phone call with Mark Riley.
