“Trump Considers Toll System on Strait of Hormuz for Peace Deal”

Date:

Donald Trump is considering the possibility of capitalizing on the peace agreement with Iran by implementing a toll system on the Strait of Hormuz. Sources have revealed that Iran is looking to impose fees of up to $1 million on ships passing through the strait, with plans for collaboration between Iran and Oman to enforce the toll. The generated revenue is intended to support Iran’s post-war reconstruction efforts, marking a departure from the longstanding practice of allowing free passage for vessels through the waterway.

In a recent statement to ABC, Trump expressed interest in leveraging the potential tolls for mutual benefit and security, describing the arrangement as a “joint venture” that would safeguard the strait from external threats. Meanwhile, Iran’s foreign minister asserted that the Iranian military would assume control of the passageway, hinting at potential diplomatic tensions ahead.

The ceasefire agreement was reached in the eleventh hour, just before Trump’s self-imposed deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Trump had previously threatened military action but opted for a temporary suspension following consultations with Pakistani officials. Although Trump claimed progress in peace negotiations with Iran, uncertainties remain regarding the fate of Iran’s nuclear program and reports of retaliatory attacks by Iran on Gulf countries post-ceasefire.
