Donald Trump faced accusations of double standards when the White House criticized Keir Starmer for allegedly endangering lives by not adjusting the kick-off time of England’s World Cup game. Just a day earlier, Trump himself defied weather warnings to proceed with his Fourth of July address.
Calls were made to reschedule the match against Mexico due to an approaching thunderstorm, which ultimately caused a one-hour delay. Andrew Giuliani, son of former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani and head of the White House World Cup task force, mentioned allegations of Trump pressuring FIFA to lift Folarin Balogun’s suspension before a match against Belgium.
Giuliani highlighted Starmer’s involvement in preventing the schedule change for the Mexico-England match, citing safety concerns. He also referenced an incident where three individuals in Mexico died from asphyxiation during post-match celebrations, unrelated to the weather.
Trump himself disclosed overturning a decision to cancel his speech on the National Mall due to lightning. Despite adverse weather conditions during the fireworks display, no casualties were reported. However, twelve individuals were hospitalized due to extreme heat during the US capital’s heatwave.
Lib Dem’s Anna Sabine criticized the White House for criticizing Starmer’s actions while ignoring Trump’s similar behavior the day before. Sabine labeled it as blatant hypocrisy.
