A mother shared her experience of noticing her young child’s unusual walking pattern, only to later discover he had a rare and aggressive form of cancer. Maxton Bowman, a two-year-old who had just begun walking, showed signs of difficulty walking before losing the ability to use his legs entirely.
Following a concerning blood rash in September 2025, Maxton was promptly taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle for blood tests. The results revealed that Maxton was suffering from lymphoblastic leukemia, a rapidly progressing blood cancer.
Maxton has since undergone extensive medical care and is awaiting his next round of chemotherapy, as his immune system levels are currently too low for further treatment. His mother, Coralle, emphasized the immediate need for his treatment, stating their family’s determination to stay positive amidst the challenges they face.
Despite being non-verbal and autistic, Maxton has faced health struggles since birth, including a delayed development and sensory issues. However, his mother describes him as a joyful child who lives in his own world. After achieving the milestone of walking, Maxton’s health deteriorated rapidly, leading to his cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatments.
Throughout his medical journey, Maxton has shown resilience and a positive spirit, even through severe side effects and challenging treatments. His parents remain vigilant, providing constant supervision due to his condition and autism. They are currently fundraising for a specialized bed to ensure Maxton’s safety during sleep.
The family’s community has rallied around them, with a GoFundMe page set up to support Maxton’s needs. Additionally, a community bike ride event is scheduled to raise awareness and funds for Maxton’s care. Despite the hardships, Coralle remains hopeful and emphasizes Maxton’s strength and positivity, inspiring those around them.
