“UK Braces for 36C Heatwave Tomorrow”

Date:

Tomorrow, temperatures in some parts of the UK could soar as high as 36C as a new heatwave sweeps through. This upcoming hot spell will mark the fourth heatwave of the year but is expected to be more localized compared to previous occurrences.

The Met Office forecasts a “hot” day today in the south-east, with temperatures reaching 29-30C across many areas. However, the peak of the heat is anticipated for tomorrow, with potential highs of 36C in East Anglia and the south-east, and 35C in eastern and south-eastern England. The Midlands may see temperatures hitting 32-33C, while Yorkshire could reach 31C. Wales is expected to experience highs of 25C, with cooler conditions in Northern Ireland and Scotland.

Temperature anomaly maps for tomorrow highlight central, eastern, and southern England as areas where temperatures are likely to exceed the seasonal average significantly. The GFS model suggests that 11 counties in England could witness temperatures surpassing 35C.

An official heatwave is confirmed when temperatures breach the heatwave threshold for three consecutive days. The threshold varies from 28C in London to 25C in regions farther from the south-east. The Met Office reassures that this week’s heatwave will be transient and not widespread across the UK, with temperatures expected to drop as the weekend approaches.

By Friday, temperatures are projected to return closer to average levels for most of the UK, slightly below average in the far north. High pressure will persist in the far south, maintaining warmer conditions, albeit noticeably cooler than midweek highs.
