A prolonged heatwave in the UK is predicted to continue for over two weeks, as per weather modelling maps. The GFS weather model indicates that temperatures above 30C could persist daily until July 22, extending the heatwave for at least 15 more days.
Temperatures are expected to exceed 35C on multiple days leading up to July 22, with peaks of 36C forecasted for this week in western England and at least 32C in central and southern regions. Subsequent highs around 36C are anticipated in western England next week, with parts of Wales and southern England reaching 35C.
The upcoming Saturday is likely to bring widespread hot weather across England, with temperatures rising above 30C even in northern areas. Eastern England could experience highs of 37C, potentially marking the peak of this heatwave.
Temperature anomaly maps show the UK covered in deep red, indicating temperatures significantly above the seasonal average. The GFS model projects that 23 counties in England and Wales could witness temperatures exceeding 35C during this 15-day period.
Although temperatures are not expected to match those of the June heatwave, the Met Office predicts highs of 35C this week. Southern UK regions may see temperatures reaching 32C today, climbing to 34C by Thursday, with isolated areas potentially hitting 35C on Friday and Saturday.
Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster Steven Keates mentioned that while night-time temperatures may not be as high as in June, urban areas could remain warm overnight. Much of England and Wales will experience hot weather, extending to parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland, with peak temperatures likely in the upper 20s. Precautions against high UV and heat exposure are advised.
