UK Heatwave to Ease as Weekend Approaches

Date:

A heatwave that has been affecting the country is expected to ease off this weekend, as per information from the Met Office. The UK witnessed record-breaking temperatures this week, with London’s Kew Gardens hitting 35.1C and Bute Park in Cardiff reaching 32.9C. Most weather stations in England and Wales broke their May temperature records, leading to the issuance of six amber heat health alerts in various regions.

While the hot weather will persist for most of the week, some areas will experience relief from the heat on Wednesday due to cooler air moving in. Thursday will see temperatures rise again as hot air from France moves northward, bringing highs of 32C in London and other regions. By the weekend, temperatures are expected to start cooling as the jet stream shifts southward, leading to lower temperatures and rainy conditions across the UK.

The Met Office Chief Forecaster, Andy Page, stated that the unseasonably warm weather will continue for the week, with the possibility of very warm nights in southern regions. Thunderstorms may also develop in some areas due to the heat and humidity. The focus on high temperatures is expected to shift westward by mid-week before gradually easing by the weekend. Meteorologist Alex Burkill described the current temperatures as exceptionally hot, emphasizing the historic nature of the heatwave for May.
