He emphasized the need for government readiness to address a significant supply shortfall over the next two months, hinting at the possibility of rationing based on past experiences.
The National Emergency Plan for Fuel, accessible on the gov.uk website, reportedly includes strategies like imposing a 50mph speed limit on all roads. Despite the existence of these plans, the government clarified that they are intended for emergency situations only, reassuring that petrol stations in the UK are adequately stocked.
A government spokesperson highlighted that the majority of crude oil refined in the UK is imported, with a minimal proportion originating from the Middle East. The country mainly relies on sources such as the United States and Norway for crude oil, with additional contributions from other producers. Organizations like the AA have emphasized the importance of drivers continuing to refuel as usual.
Meanwhile, the RAC reported a continuous increase in pump prices, with unleaded fuel reaching an average of 142.62p per liter and diesel climbing to 162.66p per liter.
