“UK Refuses to Join Trump’s Peace Board over Putin Invite”

Date:

The United Kingdom has decided not to participate in Donald Trump’s Peace Board at this time due to the invitation extended to Vladimir Putin. Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper expressed concerns about Putin’s involvement in the US President’s initiative aimed at resolving the Israel-Hamas conflict. The UK refrained from signing the treaty today, citing broader legal issues and doubts about Putin’s commitment to peace, especially in Ukraine.

Although the UK supports Trump’s 20-point peace plan for the Middle East, there are reservations about Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko’s inclusion, raising worries about the influence of dictators in shaping the region’s future. Trump intends to present his proposals at the World Economic Forum in Davos, emphasizing positive responses from invitees, including Putin.

While 11 countries have already signed up for the initiative, including the UAE, Bahrain, and others, France declined to join, leading to Trump’s threat of imposing tariffs on French goods. The Kremlin is evaluating the invitation, with Moscow consulting strategic partners before making a decision on participation.

The UK’s stance underscores the importance of addressing concerns regarding Putin’s potential role in the peace initiative, as diplomatic discussions continue among key stakeholders.
