Temperatures are set to rise across the UK, with a potential heatwave bringing highs of up to 24C over the next few days. The Met Office is forecasting temperatures of 22C in the south and 21C in the north this weekend, but indications from weather maps suggest even warmer conditions could be on the horizon.
According to the GFS weather model, temperatures are expected to reach 21C in London, Yorkshire, East Anglia, the East Midlands, and the north-west by midday on May 5. North Wales and the West Midlands may see temperatures around 20C, while Northern Ireland and Scotland could experience slightly cooler weather.
On May 6, temperatures are predicted to peak at 23C in Yorkshire, with highs of 21C to 22C across much of England, including parts of Scotland and North Wales.
May 7 is anticipated to be the warmest day, with temperatures reaching 24C in London, central England, and Yorkshire by 6pm. Central Scotland might also see temperatures around 20C.
The GFS model data suggests that during this period, around 58 counties in the UK could experience temperatures of 20C or higher, excluding Northern Ireland.
The Met Office’s forecast for April 29 to May 8 indicates that high pressure is likely to dominate initially, leading to dry conditions with sunny spells and light winds. However, as the period progresses, there may be an increase in showers and rain, with temperatures expected to be near or slightly above normal.
