“UK Woman Faces Steep Fine for Parking Mistake in Thailand”

Date:

A UK woman recently shared a cautionary tale about parking regulations in Thailand after receiving a fine for parking incorrectly. Janelle Brown found herself facing a steep penalty for a simple mistake when she parked her vehicle against the curb, unaware that it was against the local rules.

Expressing her confusion, Janelle mentioned that she had never encountered this particular regulation before. She was surprised to learn that facing the wrong way while parking was a law in Thailand, despite it not being commonly enforced.

Running both an online marketing agency and a beauty salon in Phuket, Janelle now advises fellow Britons to familiarize themselves with local driving laws before renting a car. She recounted her experience online, highlighting that this parking rule could also apply in the UK, although it is rarely enforced.

Recalling her incident in Phuket, Janelle described how she parked near the beach on a road where it was the only available spot, only to be fined 2000 baht (£45) and have her wheel clamped. She emphasized the importance of understanding and adhering to different driving regulations when traveling abroad.

Interestingly, Janelle pointed out that a similar law exists in the UK, citing Highway Code rule 239, which prohibits parking against the traffic flow. Violating this rule in the UK can lead to various penalties, ranging from fines to disqualification and even imprisonment.
