Unidentified remains were discovered during the search for a missing US soldier in Jordan, following Iranian attacks, as confirmed by the US military on Sunday.
The attacks, involving ballistic missiles and drones, occurred on July 17, resulting in the confirmed deaths of two service members. While one soldier was initially reported missing, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on the evening of July 19 that unidentified remains had been located.
CENTCOM released a statement stating that after an extensive search, unidentified remains were found at the site earlier that day. The process of verifying the remains is currently underway.
Additionally, CENTCOM reported the death of another US service member in northern Iraq on July 18. The incident happened during a controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance from an Iranian drone attack. Another service member sustained minor injuries and is receiving medical care.
For privacy and respect for the families, CENTCOM refrained from disclosing further details, including the identities of the missing and deceased service members, during the notification process.
Furthermore, CENTCOM disclosed that four other American service members were evacuated to hospitals in Jordan. With the two latest casualties, the total number of US military personnel killed since the conflict with Iran began has now reached at least 18.
