Reports from Iranian media indicate that a United States air base in Bahrain has been destroyed in a drone and missile attack.
The attack, which occurred on Tuesday, March 3, coincides with escalating tensions in the Middle East, now entering its fourth day. Previously, the US embassy in Saudi Arabia was targeted by two drone strikes.
Last Saturday, February 28, joint strikes by Israel and the US targeted key sites in Iran. In response, Iran launched retaliatory strikes across various locations in the Middle East.
Fars news agency, linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), shared footage showing rockets hitting distant targets in a reported drone and missile attack on the US air base in Bahrain’s Sheikh Isa area.
According to Fars news agency, the IRGC’s assault resulted in the destruction of a US command and staff building at the Bahrain air base in Sheikh Isa, causing fuel tanks to ignite, as reported by the BBC.
In a statement, Fars news agency described the attack as part of the “Operation True Promise 4” carried out by the IRGC Navy, targeting the US air base in Bahrain’s Sheikh Isa region with a coordinated drone and missile strike at dawn.
Following the incident, the US State Department has advised American citizens to evacuate Bahrain and other Middle Eastern countries promptly.
Notably, smoke was observed rising from a US-operated naval base in Bahrain earlier, as reported by the BBC.
As of now, the US government has not issued any statements regarding the reported attacks.
