Vladimir Guerrero Jr., a key player for the Toronto Blue Jays, has been cleared to return to action after a stint on the seven-day injured list. He will join the team for their upcoming game against the New York Yankees.
Guerrero sustained an injury during a game against the Yankees last week when he collided with rookie shortstop George Lombard Jr. while playing at third base. Despite the collision causing his helmet to come off, Guerrero managed to score a run before leaving the game.
After successfully passing his concussion tests, Guerrero rejoined the team on Friday. He also participated in a minor league rehabilitation game for single-A Dunedin, where he hit a double and took batting practice.
For Saturday’s game against the Yankees, Guerrero was slotted into the second spot in the batting order. The Blue Jays made a corresponding roster move by sending Davis Schneider to triple-A Buffalo after losing to the Yankees in the previous game.
Guerrero has been a strong performer for the Blue Jays this season, boasting a batting average of .263 with seven home runs and 46 RBIs. Prior to his injury, he was on a hot streak, hitting .310 over his last seven games.
