FIFA’s Chief Operating Officer, Kevin Lamour, has parted ways with the organization following his public criticism of President Gianni Infantino’s proposal to sell a portion of FIFA’s tournament business, which includes the prestigious World Cup. The split was confirmed by a FIFA spokesperson, expressing gratitude for Lamour’s two years of service and wishing him success in his future endeavors. The decision to part ways was mutually agreed upon after discussions between Lamour and FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafstrom. Lamour had openly opposed the proposal, stating that it went against FIFA’s core mission to serve football and accusing Infantino of pursuing personal interests over the organization’s goals. His stance echoed that of Carlos Cordeiro, another FIFA official who resigned in protest against the controversial plan. Lamour, who had been part of Infantino’s inner circle during the 2016 presidential campaign, joined FIFA in November 2024.
