Prince George RCMP has confirmed the death of an individual following an emergency landing of a plane on Foothills Boulevard, located approximately 1.5 kilometers north of North Nechako Road. Two motor vehicles were involved in the incident, as stated by the RCMP. The police expressed their sorrow over the fatality and mentioned that the condition of the other vehicle occupants and plane passengers remains unknown.
Authorities have advised the public to steer clear of the area, with Foothills Boulevard shut down in both directions for the night and into Friday. The Transportation Safety Board will be assuming control of the investigation, according to the police.
The emergency landing occurred around 2:30 p.m. PT on Foothills Boulevard near Highland Drive in northern Prince George. B.C. Emergency Health Services responded to the scene with several ambulances and paramedics, assessing a total of 10 patients and transporting two individuals to the hospital in stable condition.
Witnesses described the plane colliding with a pickup truck, resulting in injuries to the truck’s driver. Fortunately, the aircraft’s propeller narrowly missed hitting another vehicle. Images captured at the scene show a broken propeller on the road and significant damage to the aircraft and vehicles involved.
Prince George Fire Rescue labeled the incident as a “serious motor vehicle incident involving a plane,” while the Transportation Safety Board identified the aircraft as a Beech King Air 200, dispatching a team to investigate the situation. Authorities urge people to avoid the area, emphasizing that the road closure will persist for an extended period.
