Woman Dies Trying to Save Dog in Sea Rescue Effort

A tragic incident occurred as a woman lost her life while attempting to rescue her pet dog from the sea. According to Lancashire Police, the woman and a man encountered difficulties in the water in Thornton-Cleveleys on Saturday evening while trying to save their dog, which had gotten stuck.

The woman, aged in her 60s, received treatment at the scene but was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The man, also in his 60s, was transported to the hospital and is currently in critical condition. Authorities stated that the dog was successfully retrieved from the sea unharmed after the incident near Fleetwood Beach Cafe, as reported by LancsLive.

A police spokesperson mentioned that the emergency services were alerted after two individuals were rescued from the sea by HM Coastguard in Thornton Cleveleys. Despite efforts to save her, the woman tragically passed away at the hospital, with ongoing efforts to inform her next of kin.

The man remains in critical condition while the dog was safely rescued. The authorities confirmed no suspicious circumstances surrounding the woman’s death, and a report will be forwarded to the coroner in due time.

This incident follows a series of at least 15 water-related fatalities amidst the recent hot weather spell.
