Identical twins Martine and Louise Fokkens, recognized as the world’s most senior sex workers, have shared insights into their clandestine realm and how they achieved fame as distinguished Dutch professionals in the metropolis.
Having dedicated decades to the adult entertainment industry, the twin sisters disclosed anecdotes from their profession, recounting encounters with peculiar clients, including enthusiasts fixated on gnomes, and memorable interactions with royal patrons.
The siblings dispelled any stigma around their client count, asserting to have catered to a staggering total of ‘355,000’ men collectively. Renowned as the “oldest window girls in Holland,” they retired at the age of 70, boasting a combined experience of approximately 50 years.
Operating their own brothel and a traditional Dutch eatery, the twins became renowned for their iconic thigh-high leather boots, for which they charged a premium to clients interested in their removal.
Despite challenges such as arthritis hindering certain physical positions and a decline in business, prompting their retirement, the twins reflected on peculiar encounters during their career, including an enthusiastic customer who fancied himself a “filthy little gnome.”
On another occasion, a client attempted to abscond without settling his dues, inadvertently leaving behind his prosthetic leg. The twins securely stored the limb until the individual returned to settle the outstanding fee.
Raised in a modest household in Amsterdam, the twins grew up familiar with the renowned Red Light District, viewing it as a normalized aspect of urban life rather than a sordid underworld, as commonly perceived.
Louise entered the sex industry at 17 at the encouragement of her spouse, initially hesitant but eventually displaying her services in one of Amsterdam’s many Red Light District windows, where sex workers promote their offerings.
Despite family disapproval upon discovering her occupation, Louise’s twin sister Martine, also a sex worker, persisted in the profession, emphasizing their mutual independence and defiance of external judgment.
Martine, prompted by financial hardship following her husband’s job loss, transitioned into sex work, finding solace in her sister’s presence within the industry, which alleviated her apprehensions about the profession.
Although retired, Martine maintained a regular client who frequented her for S&M sessions, illustrating the enduring bond between them. She likened his visits to a habitual practice akin to attending church services.
