A young girl’s life was forever altered by a harrowing dog attack that resulted in severe injuries. Luna-Ann Forsyth, aged 4, was left bloodied and injured after being attacked by an American bulldog named Junior on the property of the dog’s owner, Emma Callaghan. Callaghan was convicted of owning a dog that was dangerously out of control and causing harm.
The incident occurred when Luna-Ann, accompanied by her mother and younger brother, visited Callaghan’s residence after a shopping trip. The court heard that Junior, who had escaped from a secured room, suddenly attacked the young girl, biting her face and dragging her to the ground.
Describing the horrific event, Judge Matthew Walsh KC stated that the unprovoked assault by Junior had traumatized Luna-Ann. She suffered severe injuries to her face, requiring multiple surgeries. The attack left her terrified of dogs and struggling with sleep, prompting her family to relocate from Nuneaton.
Luna-Ann’s mother, Amy Hobson, shared a heart-wrenching account of the impact on her daughter’s life, detailing the ongoing emotional and physical struggles she faces. Hobson expressed concerns about Luna-Ann starting school and the potential for bullying due to her altered appearance.
Despite the traumatic experience, the family has not received an apology, adding to their emotional burden. Miss Callaghan, who has mental health issues, was sentenced to a suspended prison term, rehabilitation, and community service. The court will further deliberate on the fate of the dog, Junior, and Callaghan’s future ownership of pets in a subsequent hearing.
