“7-Year-Old Boy Diagnosed with Severe Kidney Condition After Egypt Trip”

Date:

A trip to Egypt turned into a health crisis for a seven-year-old boy from Worcestershire who was diagnosed with a severe kidney condition. Alexandra and Michael Bradshaw were vacationing with their son Finn at a 4.5-star hotel in Hurghada when he fell ill. Initially thought to be a minor stomach issue, Finn’s condition worsened during the return flight to the UK, where he started vomiting repeatedly. Upon their arrival, Finn’s health continued to decline, leading to jaundice. He was admitted to Worcestershire Royal Hospital, where tests revealed acute kidney failure, prompting an urgent transfer to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for specialized nephrology treatment.

Finn underwent immediate surgery to insert a dialysis line and was diagnosed with Haemolytic-Uraemic Syndrome (HUS), a rare and serious condition often associated with E. coli infections, a common cause of acute kidney failure in children. Finn required emergency dialysis and remained hospitalized for an extended period.

Due to his illness, Finn missed several weeks of school, and upon his return, he could only attend gradually due to his condition. Both Alexandra and Michael, who are nurses, had to take time off from work to care for their son.

The Bradshaw family has enlisted the help of expert international serious injury lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to investigate the source of Finn’s E. Coli infection during their holiday, which cost over £2,400.

Jatinder Paul, a serious injury lawyer at Irwin Mitchell representing Finn and his family, expressed the gravity of Finn’s situation and emphasized the severity of HUS, highlighting its potential long-term health implications and, in some cases, fatality. The family seeks answers and support for Finn’s future rehabilitation needs.

The Bradshaw family arrived at the resort on November 7, 2025, for a week-long all-inclusive holiday. During their stay, they reported observing poor hygiene practices at the hotel’s restaurant, including uncovered food left out for extended periods while animals roamed freely. Both Alexandra and Finn fell ill during the vacation. They returned home on November 14, and Finn was hospitalized on November 20 due to worsening symptoms.

Reflecting on the ordeal, Alexandra described the fear and uncertainty they faced during Finn’s diagnosis and treatment. She emphasized the impact on their family and the traumatic experience they went through, expressing disbelief that such a situation could occur.

Michael shared the ongoing struggle to recover from the incident, not only in terms of Finn’s physical health but also the emotional toll on the entire family. Despite their gratitude for the medical care received, the family seeks answers regarding the circumstances that led to Finn’s illness during their holiday.
