The price of crude oil has exceeded $100 per barrel amid ongoing US and Israeli military actions in Iran, leading to a spike in petrol prices at UK petrol stations. The average cost now stands at 137p per liter, marking an increase of nearly 6p since the conflict started nine days ago.
Industry experts caution that if crude oil prices remain high, British drivers could face further hikes. The Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit suggests that sustained oil prices at $100 per barrel could push petrol prices to around 150p per liter, while hitting $120 per barrel could result in prices reaching about 170p per liter in the UK.
Across the country, petrol prices vary significantly based on location. In Northern Ireland, prices are notably lower than the national average, with Belfast recording an average of 125.8p per liter for standard unleaded fuel.
Areas with the highest petrol prices include North Warwickshire, Maidstone, Breckland, and Brentwood, where averages exceed 141p per liter. Nonetheless, each of these regions features more economical filling stations closer to the national average.
An interactive map is available for users to view average petrol prices in their vicinity and locate the most cost-effective refueling spots. The cheapest place to fill up in the UK is an ASDA garage in County Durham, where drivers could save up to £24 compared to pricier stations.
At the ASDA station on South Church Road, County Durham, petrol is priced at 127.7p per liter, translating to £70 to fill up a standard 55-liter tank. Conversely, the most expensive station in the UK is an ASDA outlet on the M74 Southbound, South Lanarkshire, charging 171.9p per liter, costing £95 for a full tank.
Diesel prices have surged even faster than petrol prices since the start of the Iran conflict, with an approximate increase of 9p per liter. For diesel vehicle owners, the most economical refueling location is an ASDA station in Kingswood, Hull, offering standard diesel at 134.9p per liter.
