A 43-year-old teacher passed away following complications from liposuction surgery. Regina Brumley Kerr underwent a combination of cosmetic procedures, including a tummy tuck, liposuction on her arms, and a fat transfer simultaneously at a private clinic. Due to complications, she was rushed to a hospital for urgent care and sadly died at Hospital Mexico in San Jose, Costa Rica the next day, becoming the third woman to die after plastic surgery in the city in one week.
Regina, who taught at Siquirres Bilingual Experimental School and Padre Roberto Evans Saunders Technical College, received heartfelt condolences from both schools. An official from the Association of Secondary School Teachers also expressed condolences, highlighting the loss felt by the educational community.
Authorities are awaiting autopsy results to determine the exact cause of Regina’s death. Her passing comes after two other San José residents also died following cosmetic procedures. Cinthya Carvajal Guevara and Ivannia Torres Cubillo underwent surgeries at private clinics, with Cinthya passing away due to a severe reaction while Ivannia’s health deteriorated post-surgery, leading to her death several days later.
Investigations are ongoing for both cases. The College of Physicians advised the public to verify surgeons’ credentials before undergoing cosmetic procedures to ensure their expertise and official accreditation. The NHS cautioned that all surgeries carry risks, whether done domestically or abroad, emphasizing the potential variations in post-operative care standards between countries.
