New Zealand Declines Trump’s Gaza Peace Board Invite

Date:

New Zealand has officially declined an invitation to join the Board of Peace in Gaza initiated by Donald Trump, expressing reservations about its current framework and objectives. The country’s Foreign Minister emphasized New Zealand’s acknowledgement of the United States’ leadership in collaborating with neighboring nations to promote peace in Gaza. He highlighted that New Zealand sees a potential role for the Board of Peace in Gaza in alignment with UN Security Council Resolution 2803.

Despite recognizing the contributions of other regional states to the board’s initiatives, the Foreign Minister stated that New Zealand believes its involvement would not significantly enhance the current efforts. Emphasizing New Zealand’s role as a founding member and consistent supporter of the United Nations, he stressed the importance of ensuring that the Board’s activities are in harmony with the principles of the UN Charter. He called for clarity on the board’s mandate and future directions.

While confirming New Zealand’s decision not to participate in the Board in its present state, the Foreign Minister affirmed that the country will vigilantly observe the developments within the initiative.
