Ahmed al-Ahmed, the hero of the Bondi Beach attack, has provided a significant update on his recovery journey following the tragic incident linked to anti-Semitic motives.
The father of two gained global recognition for his brave act of disarming one of the assailants during the assault at the Sydney beach in December. Sustaining five gunshot wounds while saving numerous lives, Al-Ahmed’s heroism was widely lauded.
Recently discharged from the hospital, Al-Ahmed received a warm reception at various events, including the Ashes Test. The Syrian immigrant has now shared an update on his healing process.
In an Instagram video, Al-Ahmed underwent a nerve test on his hand, revealing, “it confirmed what I feared.” Despite enduring electric shocks up to 100 mA with no sensation, he expressed resilience, recalling his past acts of saving lives and remaining determined to recover fully.
With approximately £1.2 million donated towards his recuperation, Al-Ahmed’s courage was commended by leaders worldwide. Locals eagerly await the reopening of his tobacco shop in Sutherland, Sydney, closed since the attack, emphasizing their admiration and anticipation for his return.
During the ISIS-inspired terror attack on Hanukkah where Al-Ahmed intervened, resulting in the tragic loss of 15 lives, including a young girl, and the neutralization of one assailant, Sajid Akram, his son Naveed faces multiple charges, including 15 counts of murder, with a court appearance scheduled for April 8.
