An active shooter incident at a school in Tumbler Ridge, Canada, has resulted in the death of at least nine individuals and injuries to 25 others. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) confirmed the casualties and mentioned that one suspect has also been pronounced dead.
The RCMP Staff Sergeant Kris Clark informed the public about multiple victims following the tragic shooting in Tumbler Ridge, a secluded area in Canada. Law enforcement has entered the school located in Tumbler Ridge, nestled at the base of the Rockies in British Columbia, subsequent to the incident. An air ambulance has been dispatched to the scene, as reported by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
On Tuesday, February 10, at 3:15 pm, an emergency alert was issued by the RCMP for residents in Tumbler Ridge and nearby areas in response to reports of an active shooter at a school. Residents were advised to remain indoors, lock their doors, and avoid leaving their homes or businesses.
Reports indicated that as of 5:20 pm local time, the situation was still unfolding. The suspect, described as a female with brown hair wearing a dress, remains at large. The RCMP disclosed that the suspect involved in the shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School has been found deceased.
Staff Sergeant Kris Clark stated, “The original suspect is believed to have been located deceased. Work continues to determine whether a second suspect was involved and the total number of victims involved.” Authorities are currently investigating the possibility of a second suspect being part of the incident, with additional law enforcement personnel en route to Tumbler Ridge.
School District 59 acknowledged the lockdown and secure measures in place at Tumbler Ridge Secondary and Tumbler Ridge Elementary schools.
