A shocking revelation by a police officer left Gisele Pelicot reeling as she processed the heinous crimes inflicted upon her. The officer’s words, conveying that 53 men had entered her home to commit acts of rape, shattered her world.
In a courageous move, Gisele has decided to share the harrowing details of her ordeal, previously confined to legal proceedings in France. She is now speaking out, unveiling her story of survival and valor by releasing a book and engaging in her first series of interviews following the pivotal 2024 trial that elevated her to a global symbol in the fight against sexual violence. Her husband, who drugged her to facilitate assaults by other men, was incarcerated as a result of this trial.

The revelation came when Gisele accompanied her then-husband, Dominique Pelicot, to the police station after he was caught filming women in a supermarket. It was there that she learned the disturbing truth from Officer Laurent Perret, who slowly disclosed that the man she believed to be a loving spouse had, in reality, subjected her to his perverse actions.
The officer showed Gisele incriminating photos and videos captured by Dominique Pelicot, revealing how he drugged her, rendering her unconscious, so he could orchestrate assaults by strangers in their home.
Struggling to recognize herself in the images, Gisele described feeling disconnected from the woman in the pictures, depicting her as lifeless and manipulated by her husband’s actions.
The high-profile trial that ensued sparked a national dialogue on rape culture in France. In December 2024, all 51 defendants, including Dominique Pelicot, were found guilty of numerous counts of rape and sexual assault committed over several years. Pelicot received a 20-year prison sentence, the maximum penalty for his crimes.
