Tiger Woods Detained After DUI Car Crash

Date:

Tiger Woods found himself in custody following a car accident that led to his vehicle flipping onto its side. The renowned golfer faced charges of driving under the influence, property damage, and refusal to undergo a lawful test.

After the incident, Woods was detained for a minimum of eight hours. Sheriff John Budensiek from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office in Florida mentioned that Woods was cooperative but chose not to self-incriminate.

Despite the car’s overturning, the 50-year-old managed to exit through the passenger door unharmed. He had been attempting to pass a truck hauling a pressure cleaner trailer at a high speed.

Following suspicions of impairment, Woods was transported to Martin County jail. He declined a urine test, and Drug Recognition Experts at the scene suspected he might have been under the influence of medication or drugs.

The Sheriff emphasized the fortunate absence of oncoming traffic during the incident, noting that the outcome could have been much worse if another vehicle had been present.

During his time in custody, measures were taken to ensure Woods’ safety by keeping him separate from other inmates. Although he will face consequences for his actions, his stay in jail will not involve punitive interactions with fellow detainees.

Preceding the crash, Woods had expressed interest in participating in the 46th US Senior Open in July. However, a decision on his participation was yet to be determined, as confirmed by a USGA spokesperson.

Woods, currently on a comeback journey, last played on the PGA Tour in July 2024. Despite recent injuries, he remains determined to return to competitive play and has not ruled out the possibility of attending the Masters.

US President Donald Trump, describing Woods as a close friend, expressed concern for him following the accident. Trump acknowledged the situation without delving into specifics.

In an unrelated development, Sky has enhanced its Ultimate TV and Sky Sports package by incorporating HBO Max, Netflix, Disney+, discovery+, and Hayu, along with 135 channels and extensive coverage of the Premier League and EFL matches.
