“Beautician avoids jail time after hit-and-run crash”

Date:

A 24-year-old beautician who drove away following a collision where her Mercedes A-Class crashed into a VW Polo has avoided imprisonment. Mia Pritchard failed to stop after the incident, causing significant damage to both vehicles. The police later discovered her wrecked Mercedes abandoned and inoperable a few miles away the next day.

Despite the severity of the incident, Pritchard was not sentenced to jail time but instead received 200 hours of unpaid work. She claimed that the accident triggered traumatic memories of a previous serious crash, leading her to flee the scene. The court, acknowledging the gravity of the situation, emphasized the importance of ensuring public safety on the roads.

Pritchard, from Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, faced potential imprisonment for failing to stop and report the accident but was spared incarceration. In addition to the community service, she was mandated to attend 10 rehabilitation activity days, including a driving course. Pritchard was also handed an 18-month driving ban, along with fines totaling £199.

The prosecution revealed that Pritchard had tried to conceal the identity of her car by removing its number plates after the collision. Her defense attorney explained that Pritchard’s actions were a result of anxiety stemming from a previous traumatic accident she experienced as a teenager. She made a regrettable decision to flee the scene due to fear and anxiety, not to evade responsibility.
