A Russian man has been convicted of assault causing actual bodily harm following a report made by Barron Trump, the youngest son of Donald Trump, to the UK police. Barron, 19, informed the City of London Police about witnessing his friend being attacked by Matvei Rumiantsev in London on January 18 last year. Rumiantsev was reportedly envious of the victim’s relationship with Mr. Trump.
During the trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court, prosecutors highlighted Barron’s urgent and concerned demeanor during the call to the police. Rumiantsev, residing in Canary Wharf, east London, was found guilty of assault causing actual bodily harm and obstructing justice.
The 22-year-old was acquitted of a rape and intentional strangulation charge related to the same incident reported by Barron and another rape and assault case allegedly occurring in November 2024. Mr. Trump provided details to the authorities in May, mentioning that the incident he witnessed was brief but concerning. He described seeing a brief distressing scene on a video call involving a woman being hit while speaking in Russian before the call abruptly ended.
During the emergency call, Barron was reprimanded for being perceived as rude when he hesitated to provide personal details about the victim. Despite the operator’s persistence, Barron reiterated that he connected with the victim through social media and emphasized the urgency of the situation.
Prosecutor Serena Gates suggested that Rumiantsev’s actions stemmed from jealousy toward the victim’s friendship with Barron Trump, likely influenced by his high public profile.
