Kim Jong-Un’s sister has made a public appearance after facing exclusion by her brother from the succession line in North Korea. The South Korean intelligence services recently disclosed that the North Korean leader has designated his 13-year-old daughter Kim Ju Ae as his heir, breaking the tradition of male successors initiated by Kim Il Sung. This information was further validated when Kim Ju Ae was prominently present at the North’s party congress on February 26.
During the week-long Ninth Congress of the Workers’ Party, Kim Yo Jong also participated, assuming a significant new role alongside her brother. At 38 years old, Kim was appointed as a department director at the Korean Central News Agency, the primary propaganda platform in North Korea. Analysts suggest that this promotion, which enhances Kim’s authority in the government, is crucial for consolidating the dictator’s power.
Kim Yo Jong is regarded as a trusted confidante of Kim Jong-Un, enjoying substantial support from the country’s military. According to North Korean defector Ahn Chan-il, she is among the select few individuals whom Kim Jong-Un relies on. With a history of holding key positions, including as a deputy director in the propaganda department, Kim Yo Jong’s recent elevation signifies her growing influence in the regime.
Meanwhile, Kim Ju Ae is gradually expressing her political views, indicating a grooming process for future leadership. South Korean lawmaker Lee Seong-kwen mentioned that she is currently in the “successor designation” phase, given her active participation in various state events and policy discussions. Recently seen in matching attire with her father, Kim Ju Ae is seen as the probable successor, with intelligence reports suggesting she is the only recognized child of Kim Jong-Un and Ri Sol Ju.
