Daycare Worker Accused of Giving Toddlers Laxatives

Date:

A childcare worker, Yizel Juarez, 23, is accused of giving multiple toddlers chewable laxatives under the guise of them being treats so they could be sent home from the day care center. The alleged motive behind the act was Juarez feeling overwhelmed by her responsibilities.

The day care center enforces a policy where sick children should be sent home and not return for a 24-hour period. Concerns arose when a mother noticed her toddler experiencing persistent stomach issues without a clear explanation.

The toddler, enrolled at the day care since the previous summer, coincided with Juarez starting her employment at the facility.

Following complaints from parents about unresolved health issues affecting their children, investigations were initiated. It was discovered that laxatives were the probable cause of the children’s health problems.

Juarez surrendered to the City of St. Charles Police Department and is facing charges of attempted aggravated battery and endangering the life of a child. The affected children, all under two years old, have been identified, leaving parents shocked and dismayed by the incident.

Juarez, who was pursuing early childhood education at Northern Illinois University, has been dismissed from her position at The Learning Experience day care center. Authorities are encouraging individuals with further information to come forward.
