Inmate Receives Extra Sentence for Scalding Attack

Date:

A young man, Ethan Rowley, who was awaiting trial for serious sexual offenses and already serving a 21-year prison sentence, has been given an additional nine months for a brutal attack on another inmate. The victim suffered severe burns and skin damage after Rowley threw scalding water over him in a motiveless assault at HMP Nottingham. The incident, which occurred in the shower block, left the victim with blistered skin hanging off his genitalia and legs.

During the court hearing at Nottingham Crown Court, Judge Michael Auty KC addressed Rowley, highlighting the gravity of his actions and the significant impact on the victim. The assault, which took place on November 8, 2024, involved Rowley throwing hot water from a mop bucket at the victim, causing immediate and excruciating pain. The victim was later treated for burns and blistering at the QMC.

Rowley, who is currently incarcerated at HMP Swinfen Hall in Staffordshire, appeared in court via video link and admitted guilt to charges of intentionally causing harm with a destructive substance. This incident follows Rowley’s previous convictions for violent offenses, including rape. His defense lawyer acknowledged the severity of the harm caused and emphasized the long period of incarceration Rowley is already facing at a young age.
