“Fatal Collapse at Philly Construction Site”

Date:

At least one individual has been reported deceased, with two others missing following the collapse of a parking structure under construction in Philadelphia. The incident occurred on the 3000 block of Grays Ferry Avenue, prompting emergency services to the scene at 2:16 pm local time. Three individuals were rescued, but sadly, one construction worker succumbed to injuries at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, while the other two received medical attention and were subsequently discharged.

Philadelphia Fire Commissioner Jeffrey Thompson stated that the seven-story car park remains unstable, complicating the ongoing search efforts for the missing workers. Mayor Cherelle Parker explained that the collapse was initiated by a roof segment, leading to a progressive breakdown across all seven levels. She emphasized the city’s commitment to continue the search until all individuals are located.

Authorities are planning to deconstruct and remove layers of the building to ensure safety for rescue operations. The car park, owned by the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), had all necessary permits and inspections up to date, according to Parker. The city authorities will conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.

CHOP expressed their focus on the safety of the construction workers and their collaboration with the city and construction partners in a statement. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro shared his concern and offered support to the affected families and first responders involved in the rescue efforts.

The Mirror has reached out to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for additional comments. This breaking news story will continue to be updated with any developments.
