In a tense aftermath of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting, Donald Trump launched a blistering attack on a journalist who referenced excerpts from the suspected gunman’s manifesto during a 60 Minutes interview.
Following the gunfire incident at the Washington Hilton, Trump, accompanied by his wife and high-ranking administration officials, was swiftly escorted to safety by Secret Service agents while attendees sought refuge under tables.
Although one officer sustained a gunshot but was safeguarded by a bulletproof vest and is anticipated to fully recover, authorities suspect that the ambush at the formal event was aimed at Trump and other prominent government figures.
The alleged shooter, identified as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen from Torrance, California, reportedly conveyed messages to family members shortly before the shooting, identifying himself as a “Friendly Federal Assassin” and expressing grievances towards the US government’s actions. Allen is scheduled for a court appearance on Monday.
During the CBS interview, Trump vehemently criticized host Norah O’Donnell for quoting the manifesto supposedly sent by the suspect before the attack, which contained derogatory remarks. Trump vehemently denied the accusations made in the document, expressing frustration at being associated with unfounded allegations.
Allen specified his targets as “administration officials in descending order of rank,” excluding FBI Director Kash Patel. In a message seemingly aimed at Trump, Allen asserted his refusal to tolerate the actions of someone he labeled as a “pedophile, rapist, and traitor.”
Investigations revealed anti-Trump and anti-Christian content on Allen’s social media profiles, with his brother reportedly providing authorities with incriminating statements. Trump acknowledged that the First Lady was visibly shaken by the incident but commended her strength and resilience in handling the situation.
Reflecting on Melania’s response to the shooting, Trump praised her for being composed and perceptive during the ordeal. He emphasized her fortitude and stated that both of them had remained attentive and composed throughout the harrowing experience.
