Soham murderer Ian Huntley has reportedly lost his eyesight following an assault while in prison. The 52-year-old was taken to the hospital after the attack at HMP Frankland in County Durham. Medical staff managed to save him, with prison officials initially thinking he was dead when they discovered him in a pool of blood.
Recent reports have revealed that Huntley will not return to the prison known as Monster Mansion if he survives his injuries. Instead, he will be transferred to Ashworth Hospital in Merseyside due to the severity of his injuries.
Huntley faced slim odds of survival after sustaining severe head injuries from multiple blows during the incident at the Category A prison. According to sources, he has been declared blind as a result of the injuries and is unlikely to regain consciousness.
A source indicated that Huntley’s condition has not improved significantly since the attack, and it is uncertain how long he may survive. Despite efforts by medical professionals, his prognosis remains grim.
Currently, Huntley remains hospitalized in serious condition with no change reported overnight. After the assault, he was swiftly transported to the hospital under heavy security, including armed police escorting the ambulance.
Due to the seriousness of his condition, Huntley was placed in an induced coma for stabilization during transport. Armed officers are providing continuous security at the hospital as he receives treatment.
Huntley, convicted of the murders of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in 2002, is serving a life sentence and is not eligible for parole until 2042.
