Travel preferences have been traditionally centered around group trips such as lads’ holidays and girls’ getaways. However, there is a growing trend among Brits to opt for solo trips with their mothers, the ones who introduced them to traveling. Recent research conducted by Heathrow Express indicates that 30% of adults have chosen to travel with their mothers, parents, or caregivers in the past three years.
Additionally, 16% of individuals are making plans to embark on a vacation with their mothers within the next year, highlighting the increasing popularity of bonding trips focused on strengthening relationships. The study underscores a rising desire to spend quality time with loved ones, as nearly 60% express concerns about not dedicating enough time to their mothers, parents, or caregivers as they age.
Those who have experienced traveling with their parents note several advantages, with 38% finding it more relaxing compared to trips with friends. Furthermore, benefits include the creation of lasting memories (37%), strengthening of relationships (29%), and aiding in reconnection (28%).
Heathrow Express’s business lead, Aoife Considine, emphasized the unique opportunities that travel offers to pause daily routines and engage in meaningful conversations and experiences not typically found at home. She highlighted that for many adults, a trip with their mother or parental figure is not just a vacation but a chance to reconnect, reminisce, and build new memories that endure long after returning home.
In celebration of Mother’s Day, Heathrow Express is offering a 20% discount from March 14 to 21 by using the code HEXMARCH. Travelers flying over the Mother’s Day weekend can also enjoy a complimentary dessert with any main course purchase at Gordon Ramsay’s Plane Food Market at Heathrow Terminal 5.
