An airplane had to perform an emergency landing at Belfast City Airport on Sunday evening due to strong wind gusts that raised serious safety concerns. Several flights were delayed for over two hours as a precautionary measure before landing, as powerful winds affected the harbor runway in East Belfast. Flights from Birmingham, Manchester, and Liverpool experienced significant delays because of the adverse weather conditions.
Wind gusts reaching 33mph were recorded in the area throughout Sunday. The airport confirmed in a statement released on Sunday that the emergency landing was done as a safety measure, and all passengers and crew safely disembarked the aircraft. Around five fire engines from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service were on standby, as reported by Belfast Live.
No additional details are currently available regarding the incident.
