“Trump Set to Rename Palm Beach Airport after Himself”

Date:

Donald Trump is poised to have a significant international airport renamed in his honor as the self-centered president continues to attach his name to various structures. Trump has already affixed his name to government facilities, cultural centers, currency, and naval vessels, and now he aims to make his mark in aviation. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a close associate of Trump, recently approved a bill that paves the way for Palm Beach International Airport to be rebranded as the President Donald J. Trump International Airport.

Situated just 4 miles away from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, the airport’s proximity to his residence is evident as he even renamed the road leading to his mansion as Donald J. Trump Boulevard. The Trump Organization, the Commander-in-Chief’s family business, submitted a trademark application for the airport name earlier this year, sparking concerns among Florida Democrats regarding potential financial gains for the family from the renaming.

A spokesperson for the Trump Organization clarified that the family would not receive any royalties or financial benefits from the name change. If the proposed renaming is approved, the airport could officially bear the new name on July 1, necessitating the update of government records and maps to reflect the change. Additionally, the airport’s code may switch from PBI to Trump’s initials, DJT.

Notably, there are eight other U.S. airports named after former presidents, though these names were bestowed post their presidential terms, unlike Trump’s potential airport renaming while in office. These airports include John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City, George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Washington D.C., Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids, Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport in Springfield, Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport in Little Rock, Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport in Wichita, and Dickinson Theodore Roosevelt Regional Airport in North Dakota.

In a separate development, Trump unveiled plans for a Miami skyscraper that would house his presidential library. A video shared on social media showcased digital renderings of the building, featuring a towering structure in the Miami skyline adorned with the prominent “Trump” branding seen on his other properties. The video also depicted a presidential jet parked inside the lobby next to a gold escalator, reminiscent of Trump’s iconic entrance at his tower during his 2015 presidential campaign launch.

Additional visuals portrayed elements such as a grand ballroom akin to the one planned for the White House, a replica Oval Office, rooftop gardens, and a large gold statue of Trump himself. While Trump provided no detailed explanation in his post, he included a link to a new website for the library, hinting at future developments and inviting donations. Miami Dade College had previously allocated a nearly 3-acre downtown real estate plot as a gift for the forthcoming library.
