“Wheelchair User Forced to Leave Nightclub Sparks Outrage”

Date:

A young woman using a wheelchair has criticized a well-known nightclub for allegedly forcing her to leave, citing concerns about her being a potential fire hazard. Maddie Haining, 18, claimed she was asked to exit Club Tropicana on Manchester’s bustling Canal Street during the early hours of Saturday, an ordeal she described as humiliating.

In a video shared on Instagram, Maddie, known as maddieiswheelycool on the platform, documented the encounter with staff members. She stated that while one staff member was polite, the manager was disrespectful and unpleasant, informing her that she was being removed from the bar due to her wheelchair use.

Maddie asserted that when she pointed out the Equality Act 2010 to the bar staff, emphasizing that individuals in wheelchairs cannot be denied entry to a venue, they persisted in insisting she leave. She recounted how despite no issues upon her initial entry with friends at 2 am, the situation escalated later when security claimed the manager had deemed her a safety risk.

After engaging with security and the manager, Maddie highlighted the discriminatory nature of the situation, pointing out the inconsistencies in the reasons given for her removal. She mentioned confronting the manager with legal information on disability rights and fire safety regulations, challenging the decision to eject her.

Following the incident, Maddie disclosed that she communicated with two company directors associated with the nightclub, who assured her of an internal investigation into the matter. The Mirror reached out to the bar owners for a response, with a spokesperson indicating that an internal inquiry was underway and refraining from further comment at that time.
