Heartfelt tributes are pouring in for a cherished volunteer police cadet who is being remembered as a “beautiful young woman beloved by all” after her untimely passing from a brief battle with cancer at the age of 15.
Alyssa Ashcroft, a member of the Wigan Cadet Unit since March 2025, tragically lost her fight with cancer on April 12, as confirmed by Greater Manchester Police. She was a student at Deanery Church of England High School in Wigan.
Following Alyssa’s passing, an outpouring of tributes flooded social media channels, with her police supervisor describing her as a dedicated cadet. GMP Cadet lead sergeant Darren Hall expressed pride in having Alyssa as part of their policing family.
Before her demise, Alyssa was recognized as member of the month in September by Beads of Courage for her active involvement in hockey. Initially diagnosed with glandular fever, her condition deteriorated, leading to a critical diagnosis of hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), triggered by the Epstein-Barr virus.
Volunteer police cadets like Alyssa commit approximately four hours per week to various educational activities and community programs. Greater Manchester Police ensures support is available for those affected by Alyssa’s passing.
