Russia has initiated significant retaliatory strikes against Ukraine, causing nearly 20 casualties, including children, overnight and into the early hours of the morning. This action came in response to Ukraine’s previous large-scale drone attacks on Russian infrastructure.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has cautioned about escalating deep-strike assaults on the Kremlin’s industrial facilities and fuel reserves. The retaliatory strikes from the Kremlin focused on the city of Dnipro, leading to fires and multiple casualties. The attacks began late Sunday night and continued into Monday morning, with Dnipro enduring ballistic and cruise missile strikes from Moscow’s air force as Vladimir Putin seeks to exert control over a resolution.
During the overnight attacks, local authorities reported 18 individuals injured in Dnipro, including young children undergoing medical treatment. Prior to this, Ukraine had targeted Russia with deep-strike drone attacks using homemade drones to strike Russian depots, such as a microchip factory and an oil pumping station.
Ukraine’s strategy is aimed at disrupting Vladimir Putin’s military operations by targeting energy supplies for troops and critical technology necessary for frontline weaponry. President Zelensky defended these strikes as a justified response, stating that they are vital in hampering Putin’s ability to wage war on civilians and Kyiv’s infrastructure.
Zelensky highlighted the effectiveness of Ukrainian attacks in undermining Putin’s defense efforts, emphasizing the impact on Russian refineries, oil facilities, and enterprises. Notably, Ukraine targeted the Angstrom company in Zelenograd, which produces microcircuits for precision weapons, and the Solnechnogorsk pumping station near Moscow, a key fuel supplier for Russian forces.
Furthermore, Ukrainian forces struck Russian positions along the front line and in border regions, including command posts in Kharkiv and Kherson, as well as troop locations in Zaporizhzhia. The latest operation utilized Ukrainian-made systems such as the RS-1 “Bars,” FP-1 “Firepoint,” and BARS-SM “Gladiator” unmanned systems.
The Bars-SM drone, characterized by a two-yard wingspan and simplified construction, offers enhanced production efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Capable of traveling long distances and carrying substantial payloads, these drones have proven effective in damaging targets. Ukraine’s proficient weapon manufacturing capabilities have shifted the balance in favor of Kyiv on the battlefield.
Moreover, Kyiv is emerging as a hub for drone technology, sharing expertise with foreign governments on the latest advancements in this field.
