Dozens of brides in Tenerife have faced disappointment as their wedding plans were shattered due to the bankruptcy of their wedding planner’s business. The company, Weddings in Tenerife SL, run by Claire Lopez, a British national, left around 20 couples uncertain about their ceremonies, having received an email notifying them of the insolvency.
One couple from Merseyside, Kayleigh Billington and Phil Golding, had entrusted £15,000 to Ms. Lopez for their wedding arrangements since 2023. Despite making several payments and visiting Tenerife to discuss details, they were devastated when they learned of the financial crisis on May 22.
Ms. Billington tried to contact Ms. Lopez, only to receive an email stating that the company could no longer fulfill its services, leaving the couple with minimal payments to suppliers. Their total of £14,700 seemed unaccounted for, putting their wedding plans in jeopardy.
Despite the setback, the couple managed to secure discounts from supportive suppliers, allowing them to proceed with the wedding by incurring additional costs. They also set up a fundraising page to alleviate their financial burden.
Another couple, Ella Hudson and Sam Tuck, faced a similar predicament after paying £16,000 for their wedding, only to discover that no payments had been made for the services. They expressed shock and disappointment, considering the additional expenses required to salvage their special day.
The company’s co-directorship history and changing ownership details have raised questions, prompting further inquiries by concerned parties. Efforts to reach Ms. Lopez and Spanish authorities for comments are ongoing.
