“Argos Unveils Manhattan S4-R: Sky Q Alternative with No Monthly Fees”

Date:

Argos has introduced a new device, the Manhattan S4-R set-top box, as an alternative to Sky Q-style upgrades without the burden of monthly fees. This device, which operates on the Freesat platform, offers similar features to Sky Q, such as recording programs, pausing live TV, and storing content on its built-in hard drive. The key advantage is that after the initial purchase, there are no additional monthly costs, providing access to over 100 channels for free.

With a user-friendly interface, the Manhattan S4-R allows up to four simultaneous recordings and offers access to over 60,000 hours of on-demand content. While it may not match Sky Q in premium sports and movie packages, it provides a cost-effective option with flexibility and a variety of channels, including popular ones like BBC, ITV1, Channel 4, E4, and more.

The Manhattan S4-R 500GB model is currently available for £219.99 at retailers like Argos and Amazon, with larger 1TB and 2TB versions expected to launch soon. Manhattan’s COO, Alex Arbab-Zadeh, highlighted the device’s enhanced recording capabilities and emphasized its appeal to households seeking an affordable, subscription-free TV solution.

In a similar vein, the Pleio puck has entered the market as a competitor, offering over 50 live channels through internet streaming without the need for an aerial. Priced at £99.99 and available through platforms like Amazon and eBay, the Pleio puck comes with a gaming controller and access to a range of online games.

Sky has responded to market competition by reducing prices on its Sky Glass Air TV ahead of the World Cup, with rates starting from £4.50 per month. Customers interested in the upgraded Sky Glass Gen 2 model, featuring a 4K Quantum Dot display and Dolby Atmos soundbar, can expect prices starting from £11 per month.
