Former Police Superintendent and Accomplice Charged in £720k Investment Scam

Date:

A former police superintendent and another individual are facing charges in connection with a scam involving a £720,000 investment scheme. Syed Hussain, 54, a previous high-ranking officer at West Midlands Police, is facing allegations of fraud and the transfer of criminal funds. Farah Ullah, 43, has also been accused of fraud and two counts of transferring criminal property.

The Crown Prosecution Service approved the criminal charges following a woman’s claims that she sent a significant sum of money to the accused individuals in anticipation of a substantial return. The alleged offenses took place between November 2022 and April 2023.

Hussain, residing in Barking, Essex, was dismissed from the police force. Ullah, from Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on July 1.

Malcolm McHaffie, Head of the Crown Prosecution Service’s Special Crime Division, stated, “We have chosen to prosecute Farah Ullah, 43, and Syed Hussain, 54, for fraud and transferring criminal property offenses. The charges pertain to alleged wrongdoing between November 2022 and April 2023.

“Our prosecutors have diligently gathered sufficient evidence to bring the case to court and have determined it is in the public interest to proceed with criminal charges. We have collaborated closely with the Metropolitan Police Service during their investigation.

“We emphasize that legal proceedings against these defendants are ongoing, and they are entitled to a fair trial. It is crucial that there is no reporting, commentary, or online sharing of information that could potentially bias these proceedings.”
