“Britons Warned: Common Hotel Etiquette Mistakes Revealed”

Date:

Britons have been cautioned about a frequent error they might unknowingly commit when checking in at a hotel.

Arriving at the pre-booked hotel, whether for a city getaway or a rural retreat, is usually met with excitement and anticipation. The way guests behave during their stay holds significant importance, as highlighted by etiquette expert William Hanson, who emphasized the importance of treating hotel staff with respect and kindness.

According to a study by Hotels.com, a substantial 40% of Britons feel their hotel etiquette is declining, with 51% admitting to being impolite to staff. This behavior can have a direct impact on the quality of their stay.

William stressed the significance of the first impression guests make upon arrival, as hotel staff observe and make judgments based on initial interactions, potentially affecting upgrades or special offers.

Furthermore, he advised guests to be mindful of the hotel environment, emphasizing the difference between a hotel stay and being at home. Maintaining cleanliness and organization in the room facilitates the work of housekeeping staff, ensuring a comfortable and efficient service.

The study by Hotels.com also revealed that a notable 25% of Britons leave their hotel rooms excessively messy, while 23% admitted to inappropriate use of hotel kettles for washing undergarments. To assist guests in enhancing their hotel experiences, William collaborated with Hotels.com to create a comprehensive ‘grand etiquette hotel guide.’

In his guide, William highlights the importance of small gestures and considerate behaviors, which can lead to enhanced service, better rest, and potential savings on future trips.
