Tragic Dehydration Deaths of Twin Sisters in France

Date:

Twin baby sisters, who were 15 months old, were discovered lifeless in their beds, suspected to have died from dehydration. The French authorities are currently investigating this tragic incident. Upon finding the twins deceased, the parents contacted emergency services. Additionally, four other children, aged three to six, were also reported to be suffering from dehydration, with one child requiring airlifting to a hospital for urgent medical care.

The heartbreaking event took place in Beuvrages, near Valenciennes, where the parents are currently being held in custody by local law enforcement. Neighbors revealed that the family had only recently moved into the residence, maintaining a low profile since their arrival. According to RTL, the family had no prior interactions with social services.

The public prosecutor of Valenciennes confirmed that the twins were found deceased in their beds. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday to investigate the circumstances leading to their deaths, specifically focusing on the potential impact of dehydration due to the high room temperature.

Amid a scorching heatwave, France witnessed a significant rise in deaths, with approximately 1,000 additional fatalities reported during the peak of the extreme weather. The country’s public health agency disclosed that the number of daily deaths surged during the hottest days of the heatwave, exceeding the pre-heatwave mortality rates. The agency emphasized that the death toll is anticipated to rise as more data is compiled, particularly concerning deaths at private residences.

The surge in fatalities was most pronounced in regions under red warnings for extreme heat, covering a large portion of the country during the heatwave period. Notably, the elderly, aged 65 and above, constituted the majority of the deceased individuals. The escalating number of deaths posed challenges for funeral directors in Paris, who struggled to accommodate the influx of bodies in the city’s overwhelmed mortuaries as temperatures soared above 40°C.
