Lady Louise Windsor has recently graduated from the University of St Andrews in Scotland, where she completed her English and international relations degree after four years of study. The 22-year-old, who is the late Queen’s youngest granddaughter, celebrated this milestone with her proud parents, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.
To mark her achievement, new photos were released, one showing Lady Louise in her graduation robe holding her degree certificate, and another with her parents, Sophie and Prince Edward. She was also seen alongside her boyfriend, fellow student Felix da Silva-Clamp, earlier in the day. Lady Louise is now planning to take a gap year involving work, volunteerism, and travel.
Following in the footsteps of her older cousin Prince William and his wife Kate, who are also St Andrews University graduates, Lady Louise participated in the university’s traditional ‘capping’ ritual during her graduation ceremony, which her parents attended.
Lady Louise is set to receive her Duke of Edinburgh’s (DofE) gold award from her father, Edward, at a special celebration at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh. This moment is particularly significant as it coincides with the 70th anniversary of the award founded by her late grandfather, Prince Philip, and the 40th anniversary of her father’s involvement in the youth adventure scheme.
Born prematurely in November 2003, Lady Louise has mainly grown up away from the public eye, shielded by her parents while pursuing her studies. She is not expected to become a working royal like her parents, as her mother, Sophie, expressed that it is unlikely she and her brother will adopt their HRH titles.
During her time at university, Lady Louise joined the University Officer Training Corps, hinting at a potential career in the military. If she chooses to pursue this path, she would be the first female royal to embark on a military career since the late Queen, who served in the Auxiliary Territorial Service during World War II. Lady Louise also shares her late grandfather Prince Philip’s passion for carriage driving.
In a documentary about Prince Philip’s life, Lady Louise made her public speaking debut, reflecting on her bond with her grandfather through the sport of carriage driving. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn from him firsthand, highlighting the closeness it brought to their relationship.
Lady Louise has shown a keen interest in maintaining her privacy, with her mother, Sophie, emphasizing the importance of allowing her daughter to make her own choices and live her life. Sophie also mentioned that Lady Louise is not active on social media, and she hopes that her daughter’s studies and friendships will protect her from unwanted attention.
Overall, Lady Louise Windsor’s graduation marks a significant achievement as she embarks on new adventures and experiences following her university studies.
