“Boy Airlifted After River Fall at Dartmoor”

Date:

A 12-year-old boy was airlifted to the hospital after falling into a river at a popular spot in Dartmoor over the weekend. The incident occurred at Spitchwick on the River Dart on Saturday, leading to the closure of the road for an hour while emergency services rescued the young boy.

The Devon Air Ambulance arrived at the scene approximately 15 minutes after the accident happened around noon on July 11. Eyewitnesses mentioned that the boy slipped while jumping off a cliff, according to reports from Devon Live.

Various responders, including Dartmoor rangers, Devon and Cornwall Police, and paramedics, swiftly arrived at the scene to provide assistance. The road closure lasted for an hour but has since returned to normal.

Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team – Ashburton shared information about the incident on their Facebook page, stating that they were called to help the injured child who had been diving into the river at Spitchwick. Team members assisted in moving the boy on a stretcher to a Devon Air Ambulance Trust helicopter. Due to the busy nature of the area on that hot day, emergency vehicles had to block the lane, with team members managing traffic until the air ambulance departed. Well wishes were extended for the child’s speedy recovery.
